LONG WAY HOME

June 23, 2020

Fulton-Hickman Counties Economic Development Partnership President Mark Welch, a Fulton native who currently resides in Murray, has been a collector of Fulton memorabilia for some time, and hopes to soon furnish his office in Fulton City Hall with items he has accumulated over the years from his home town. One cherished discovery was found at a Hazel, Ky. art gallery/consignment shop, there on consignment from a Calloway County couple. Welch spotted the bench outside the business, and while it was in need of some minor repairs and refinishing, the Fulton Railroad Depot bench has found a permanent home. Welch said once the not-so-sturdy posts and frame were secured and an almost perfect match of stain was applied, the brass plate designating the origin of the seating contrasts perfectly. Welch said right above the bench, he plans to hang a print of the historical Fulton Depot, which depicts a similar bench outside the depot door. (Photo by Benita Fuzzell.)
