South Fulton native Jeff Johns promoted to Colonel in USAF

On Oct. 1 2020, Jeff Johns, a native of South Fulton, and 1990 graduate of South Fulton High School, was promoted to Colonel in the United States Air Force.

Colonel Johns is the maintenance division chief for the Director of Logistics, Headquarters, at Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base.

The Air Mobility Command Maintenance Division provides maintenance manpower, training, technical specialties, analysis, policy and guidance supporting 1,100 aircraft and associated support equipment at 58 worldwide locations, and 13,000 aircraft maintenance personnel ensuring rapid global mobility for the Department of Defense.

Col Johns has held various maintenance and logistics assignments at the wing, major command, and Headquarters level, and has commanded two squadrons.

Additionally, Col Johns participated in various exercises and contingencies to include Operations NORTHERN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM.

Col Johns’ wife, Cynthia, his mother, Joyce, and his two brothers, Ronnie and Gary, of South Fulton, were able to attend the promotion ceremony at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
