AREA OBITUARIES -- LOUETTA WHEELER EVERETT AREA OBITUARIES -- LOUETTA WHEELER EVERETT

Louetta Wheeler Everett, 82, formerly of Hickman, Ky., passed away peacefully at Morning Point East in Lexington, Ky., on September 24, 2022. She moved from Hickman to Lexington in 2014 at the beginning of her Alzheimer’s disease to be cared for by her daughter and family. Although she had to move due to her illness, her heart always belonged to her hometown of Hickman.

Louetta was born on March 6, 1940, in Union City, TN to the late Parke L. and Louise B. Wheeler of Hickman, Ky. Louetta spent her younger years growing up on the farm. She loved being outside,

helping her father with the cattle, and spending time with her friends. Louetta was a member of the first graduating class of the new Fulton County High School in 1958, where she played the clarinet in the marching band. Louetta attended Murray State University after high school and became a high school science teacher. She taught biology, chemistry and physics at both Livingston Central High School and Hickman County High School. Although she quit teaching full-time after her daughter Cindy was born, she stayed very active mentoring many children through her volunteer efforts as a Girl Scout Leader and 4-H Club leader. She also worked as a substitute teacher for many years before deciding to retire.

One of Louetta’s biggest joys in later life was being “Nanny” to her two granddaughters. She never

missed any activity they were in, often chaperoned school field trips and sat in many school pickup lines to pick them up from school. She always loved it when she could get to Lexington in time to surprise them in the pickup line and take them for ice cream. She also enjoyed her two cats who lived with her until she moved to memory care.

Louetta grew up in Poplar Grove Baptist Church where she was baptized in 1954. Poplar Grove is also where she met and later married James Murphy Everett. After their marriage, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton and First Baptist Church in Hickman for several years before moving her membership to West Baptist Church in Hickman when James became music minister there. She was a member of West Baptist Church in Hickman for over 30 years where she volunteered for bible school and other activities in the church.

Louetta is preceded in death by her parents Parke L. and Louise B. Wheeler.

Louetta is survived by her only child, Cindy Bragg (Wayne) and her two granddaughters, Emily and Rachel Bragg.

Funeral services for Ms. Louetta Wheeler Everett will be held September 30, at 12:00 p.m. at the West Baptist Church in Hickman, Ky., with Bro. Jason Sipes officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickman City Cemetery.
