Red Devil roster loaded with experience

Having completed 16 years as a Head Baseball Coach, and six as an Assistant, South Fulton High School’s Jeremy McFarland has a solid roster for the 2023 Red Devils’ baseball team, with eighth graders Tucker Hutchins and Mason Parrish the only two new faces on his 12-man team.

Coach McFarland will be joined by Assistant Coaches Jason Rodehaver and Jerry Oliver for this season.

As it now stands, Charles Michael Mulcahy, a freshman, will hold the catcher’s post, with Dylan Bynum, a sophomore, at first and freshmen Kaedyn Haynes and Braden Gore at second.

Sophomore Brady McFarland will be at short stop, senior Dylan Ruddle will play third, and in the outfield, senior Logan Cromika will be in leftfield, senior Conner Allen in center and Jayden Wilder, a freshman, in right field. Senior Riley Alexander will fill for whoever is pitching, Coach McFarland said.

Speaking of Pitchers, McFarland, Mulcahy, Alexander, Ruddle, Allen and Cromika will share those duties.

“Our biggest thing is everyone in the lineup played last year in the same spot. We did not lose any seniors so we brought everyone back for this season,” McFarland said.

On the other hand, consistency may be a challenge.

“Last season had many bright spots, but low ones too. We are trying to be more consistent from day to day this season,” the Head Coach said.

In a review of the 2023 schedule, Bradford, Dresden and Hickman County are probably the top three when it comes to tough foes.

“All have veteran teams that have played alot of quality baseball,” Coach McFarland said.

He sees his team goals are to always make sure the team in the best possible position heading into the district tournament, to compete for a championship and advance to the regional tournament.
