AREA OBITUARIS - NELL PEWITT

Mrs. Nell Kathryn Nelson Pewitt, 96, of Memphis, Tenn., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

She was born on November 29, 1926, in Weakley County, Tenn., to the late Dewey Vernon Nelson and Jessie Mae Colley Nelson.

Nell was a strong, independent, and hard-working woman who spent 32 years as a Human Resources Manager in the Mopar Parts Division of the Chrysler Corporation in Memphis, Tenn. After briefly retiring to care for her mother until her death at the age of 100, she returned to the workforce, this time as an Administrative Professional at Edward Jones in Memphis.

A devout Christian woman, Nell was also an active member of Quail Ridge Church of Christ in Bartlett, Tenn., where she faithfully attended weekly services and participated in women’s Bible study.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Stephen (Dana) Pewitt of Cordova, Tenn., and Hunter Kathryn Pewitt of Las Vegas, Nev.; a niece, Faye (Ed) Floyd, and two nephews, Norman (Catherine) Harwood of Cicero, Ind., and Tom Harwood of Gainesville, Fla.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, and only child, Captain Harry Nelson Pewitt (United States Army); and her only sibling, a sister, Helen Nelson Harwood

A visitation will be held in Hornbeak Funeral Chapel on April 22, at 11 a.m., and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m., with a burial to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorials in her honor can be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars or the ASPCA.
