AREA OBITUARIES -- GLENN PUCKETT
Colonel Charles “Glenn” Puckett formerly from Water Valley, Ky. passed away September 29, 2023, at the Shady Lawn Nursing and Rehab in Cadiz, Ky. at the age of 97.
He was born in the family home in Water Valley, Ky. on September 29, 1926 to the late Esta Ellen Hedge Puckett and William Limuiel Puckett.
Glenn was an Army and Air Core Veteran in the Pacific Theater during World War II and tells the story of him walking into the Army when he was only 17 turning 18 in the Philippines killing mosquitoes the size of turkeys and came out of the service flying planes.
He loved flying airplanes, and he owned 14 private planes within his 57 years of flying and had over 5,000
hours in the air once he left the service. Glenn was a life member and a full Colonel with CAF (Confederate Air Force) and a Kentucky Colonel.
He loved duck-hunting and living on Kentucky Lake for 40 years. Glenn liked to fish, but he would tell you
the way he really liked to fish was to have them brought to his table ready to eat. He also loved to watch the
University of Kentucky play basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Glenn came out of service working as a bundle boy for H.I.S Sportswear in Fulton, Ky.. He worked his way up the ladder to become the plant manager of H.I.S. He also started and helped run the South Fulton H.I.S. plant as well.
Once he retired, he started a little side sewing contractor business in the old schoolhouse where he attended school in Water Valley.
He had the highest basketball score and that record stood until they closed the Water Valley School House. He sold “Glenn’s contractors Inc.” to the company he was sewing for, and they moved the business to Fulton Ky., which is still up and running to this day.
He is survived by a son Daniel G. Puckett of Nashville TN, a daughter Rebecca “Becky” J. Marshall, two grandchildren: Kirsten M. Irvin and Sarah Marshall, two great-grandsons: Maddox and Haden Irvin, all from Murfreesboro Tenn. and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his late wife, Pat King and a son, David G. Puckett and his siblings: Odell, Cortez, Mable, Harold and Maureen.
Pallbearers will be members of The Patriot Guard.
Honorary Pallbearers were Brad Box, Danny Latta, Billy McAlister, Denise McCord, Rodney Pewitt, Ron Tarnowski, Larry Walker, and Mickey Whitlock.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023 in the Hornbeak Funeral Home funeral chapel with burial to follow in the Water Valley Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held at the funeral
home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4. The Patriot Guard will escort the procession to the cemetery.
