Red Devils overwhelmed by Dresden Lions

South Fulton High School Red Devils faced off against a powerful Dresden team Oct. 5, and got an up-close look at why the Lions, at 7-0 on the season, are ranked #2 in Tennessee High School football Class 1A.

Dresden’s Cameron Schlicht found his target on 11 or 12 passes, accumulating 283 passing yards on the night, and Lion Tristen Jett had 176 yards in eight carries, on the way to a 62-12 win for the visitors, against the Devils.

Dresden scored four times in the first quarter, with two of Schlicht’s passes finding Nick Turnbow, and Jett running in the other two touchdowns, with Dresden’s Paul Betzou providing the extra point kick each time, ending the first quarter at 28-0, Dresden.

The Red Devils came back in the second quarter with two touchdowns of their own, one from a 36 yard pass to Dane Cirkles, from Brady McFarland and the other from a McFarland pass to Jonathan Doss. Both two point conversion attempts were no good, and the first half ended with a 48-12 deficit for South Fulton.

Dresden made two more trips into the end zone in the third quarter, and neither team put points on the board in the fourth, with a 62-12 tally at the final buzzer, and a loss for the Devils.

South Fulton had 136 total offensive yards on the night, to Dresden’s 503.

Red Devil Brady McFarland was good on 18 of 34 passes for 129 yards.

South Fulton’s Josh McKnight had 7 receptions for 25 yards; Connor O’Neal had 4 for 32; Dane Cirkles had 3 for 40 yards; and Jonathan Doss, 2 for 32 yards.

Dallas Whitehead led the Devils in rushing with 18 yards in 10 carries.

As a team, South Fulton had 7 first downs to Dresden’s 20, with the Red Devils recording 2 penalties for 10 yards and the Lions, 1 for 5 yards.
