Fulton County Lady Pilots’ goal to win District, Regional play

by Mark Collier

The Fulton County High School Lady Pilots will return all five starters, Hannah Murphy, JaMesha Brown, JaVona Davis, Jaleeha Smith, and Kylee Harrison, from the 2022-23 squad, who amassed an 11-10 record last season and made a trip to the championship game of the First District Tournament and an appearance in the First Region Tournament.

Also returning will be Coach Leonard Smith, who has been the Head Coach since 2011, and Assistant Coach LaVetta Lockridge, who has been in that position since 2018.

The 2023-24 edition of the Lady Pilots will be composed of four freshmen, two sophomores, three juniors and two seniors.

The coaches believe JaVona Davis will be the best free throw shooter, Kylee Harrison the best three-point shooter, and Jaleeha Smith the best defender on the team.

In terms of leadership role, the coaches believe juniors JaMesha Brown and Hannah Murphy will fulfill that role.

When asked who was the most improved on the team, the coaches pointed out two players, Jaleeha Smith and Kylee Harrison.

As for goals for the upcoming season, the coaches hope to improve on last year’s results and win not only the First District Tournament, but also the First Region Tournament and earn a trip to Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.
