South Fulton’s Red Devils put away three opponents in as many games last week, beating Gleason Jan. 30 Dresden Feb. 1 and Greenfield Feb. 2.
Mayfield 66, SFHS 32
The South Fulton Red Devils could not overcome a 33-17 halftime deficit in the Feb. 5 home game against Mayfield Cardinals and ultimately lost the game to the visitors, 66-32.
Mayfield continued the surge in the second half, outscoring the Red Devils 34-15.
Mayfield’s Collin Gibson had 12 points on the night, from four 2-point goals and connections on four of four free throws. Braden Morris had 10 points for the Cardinals, Mak Hoover and Bradon Pate had 8 each.
The Red Devils were led by Brady McFarland with 18 points. McFarland hit five 2’s, sank a three-point shot and hit five of eight free throws.
Charlie Mike Mulcahy had 8 points for South Fulton, from four 2-point baskets.
Red Devils Connor O’Neal, Dane Cirkles and Jayden Wilder added 2 points each on the night.
SFHS 50, Gleason 48
The first half which favored Gleason’s Bulldogs flip flopped to a Red Devil advantage in the second half and ultimately decided the win for South Fulton Jan. 30, 50-48.
Gleason was on top 16-13 at the close of the first quarter against the Devils, and also at the end of the first half of play, the lead was all Gleason, 31- 21.
The second half, however, the Red Devils came alive on the court, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-8 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth. Gleason still had the lead at the end of the third quarter, 39-35. Time fell on the side of South Fulton, with a 2-point advantage stabilized at the final buzzer, 50-48..
Charlie Mike Mulcahy led South Fulton in the win, hitting six 2-point goals and sinking seven free throws, for 19 points.
Red Devil Brady McFarland had 18 points, hitting two baskets from 3-point territory, adding four more two-point buckets and hitting four of 10 free throws.
Jayden Wilder had 7 points for South Fulton, and Dane Cirkles had 5. Wilder hit two 2’s and a three-pointer and Cirkles had two 2’s and a free throw. Clark Rice had a two-point basket and was a perfect three for three at the line, for his 5 point contribution.
Gleason’s Drake Lehmkuhl had 21 points, from five 2-point goals and two 3’s, hitting five of 10 free throws. Gage Byington had 8 points for the Bulldogs, from four 2-point baskets.
SFHS 45, Dresden 39
On Feb. 1, the Red Devils allowed the Dresden Lions a first half lead, 29-16, but rearranged the course of the game in the second half, coming back with a 16 point run in the third, while holding the Lions to only 2 points, and upping the total by 13 points in the fourth to Dresden’s 8, for a 32-31 Red Devil lead at the end of the third quarter of play, and a 6-point final advantage, 45-39.
Brady McFarland recorded 24 points in the win over Dresden, making good on four baskets from three-point range, hitting six of seven free throw attempts and tossing in three 2-point goals.
Charlie Mike Mulcahy had 19 points, putting down nine 2-point buckets, plus a free throw and Dane Cirkles added in a two-pointer, for his 2 points.
Dresden Lion Arden Smith had 14 points, hitting four 2’s, a three and going three for three at the line. Ross Finney had 9 points and Nick Turnbow, 8 for Dresden.
SFHS 56, Greenfield 53
In what appeared to be a pattern for the SFHS Red Devils last week, the Feb. 2 contest against Greenfield’s Yellow Jackets proved to hold steady the process, with a first half slow start, followed by a second half acceleration and an ultimate win against the Jackets, 56-53.
Greenfield jumped ahead 12-10 in the first, and 26-18 at the halfway mark, but South Fulton countered with a 16-12 third quarter in their favor, and a 22- 15 final stretch. Greenfield closed the third quarter with a 38-34 lead, but the Devils used the all-important fourth quarter surge to secure the win, 56-53.
Greenfield’s Cruze Porter had two 2-point goals and four hits from three point range, and three free throws for 19 points, with Jackets Jackson Dunla, Carson Willis and Easton Sullivan scoring 8 points a piece.
Brady McFarland had 23 points in the South Fulton win against Greenfield, hitting seven 2-point goals, and nine of 13 free throws.
Charlie Mike Mulcahy had 16 points in the win, from six 2-pointers, and four free throws.
Conner O’Neal scored a three and a two plus two free throws for his 7 points for South Fulton and Dane Cirkles had three 6 points, Clark Rice, 4.
