South Fulton Lady Devils District 14A Runner-up
South Fulton’s Lady Red Devils fell to Greenfield’s Lady Yellowjackets, 55-36, in the District 14A championship game held at SFHS Feb. 17, and claimed the District Runner Up spot for their 2023-2024 post season play.
Greenfield 55, SFHS 36
Greenfield’s Lady Yellowjackets had a 10 point advantage at the end of the first half of play Saturday night, 26-16, against the SFHS Lady Red Devils, outscoring the Lady Devils by a point in the first quarter, 8-7, and then 18-9 in the second round of play.
The Lady Devils put up 10 points in each of the final two quarters, but Greenfield maintained the lead scoring 16 points and 13 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
South Fulton’s Maddie Gray had 23 points on the night, with a couple of hits from three point range, seven 2-point baskets and succeeding on three of six free throw attempts.
Anna Gore, Abbi McFarland and Katie Barclay each recorded 3 points, Gore from a two-point goal and a free throw, McFarland and Barclay from sinking a 3-point bucket. Anna Gore and Addysen Wilson had 2 points each in the game.
For Greenfield, Anastyn Vujicic and Brenley Little each carried 12 points in the matchup, Fujicic from two threes, and a perfect six of six at the line. Little hit four 2-point goals, a 3-pointer and a free throw. Rayonna Fisher had 10 points for the Lady Jackets, hitting three goals for 6, and going four for four at the line.
SFHS 49, Gleason 35
South Fulton High School’s #1 seeded Lady Red Devils defeated #5 seeded Gleason Lady Bulldogs Feb. 15 in the Tennessee High School Athletic Association District 14A tournament, held at SFHS, to advance to the championship game Feb. 17.
With the exception of the third quarter of play, the Lady Devils had the advantage on the board against Gleason, 9-7 in the first quarter, and a lead 22-11 at the end of the first half. The Lady Bulldogs did pull off a 19 point run in the third quarter, to South Fulton’s 13 points scored in that stretch, but came back in the fourth with a 14 point pounding, to hold the Lady Bulldogs to 5 points and secure the win.
Lady Red Devils Abbi McFarland and Maddie Gray shared team high points in the match, with 17.
McFarland hit four 2-point baskets, as well as sank two goals from 3-point range, and connected on three of four trips to the line.
Gray hit a 3-point basket, found net on four 2-point goals and hit six of seven free throws.
South Fulton’s Anna Gore had 8 points on the night, hitting two free throws, a 3-pointer and a 2-point basket.
Katie Barclay scored 3 for SFHS, with Addysen Wilson and Aubree Gore scoring 2 points a piece in the win.
Gleason’s Autumn Mingle had a game-high 18 points, from six 2-point goals, and hitting six of seven free throw. Team mate Hylan Leach had 7 points for Gleason, hitting two 2-point buckets and a goal from 3-point range.
