NEW SOUTH FULTON FIRE CHIEF NAMED AFTER RESIGNATION NEW SOUTH FULTON FIRE CHIEF NAMED AFTER RESIGNATION

Effective today, Feb. 29, a new Fire Chief has been appointed for the South Fulton Fire Department, following the resignation of former Chief Kenneth Walker.

According to South Fulton City Manager Joyce Gray, former Chief Walker had submitted his letter of resignation Feb. 27, with two weeks notice.

However, on the morning of Feb. 29, Walker reconsidered his length of notice, and instead told Gray his resignation would be effective immediately.

Named as Walker's replacement is John C. Curtis, who currently serves at Executive Director of the Twin Cities Chamber of Commerce.

According to Curtis, plans were to share his decision to accept the Fire Chief's position with Chamber Board members at their noon board meeting on Feb. 29, with his intention to begin the transition process on March 4 with the fire department.

He and Gray had agreed that he could continue to help with the Chamber duties, temporarily, until a replacement could be found for that position.

When Walker's notice date was changed, a need arose more quickly than expected, to get someone in place for the Chief's position.
