With 23 years of coaching baseball under his belt, 17 as Head Baseball Coach, and, oh yes, there’s a high school baseball field which displays your name, South Fulton High School Red Devils Coach Jeremy McFarland has established a basic fundamental goal for his 2024 team.

“Compete day in and day out, no matter the opponent, and put ourselves in the best possible position to compete for a higher seed for the District Championship,” he said.

The 2023 team recorded a record of 16 wins and 12 losses.

Jason Rodehaver and Jerry Oliver will assist Coach McFarland and the Red Devils this season, with a host of team members returning from the previous year, in Brady McFarland, Dylan Bynum, Charles Michael Mulcahy, Kaedyn Haynes, Braden Gore, Jayden Wilder and Mason Parrish.

New to the roster will be Red Devils Adon Rushing, Shelton Johnson, Grant Joyner, Carson Gilbert and Taylor Hall.

After a couple of weeks in, a number of key positions have been determined for the 2024 season.

The men on the mound will be McFarland, Mulcahy, Bynum, rushing, Haynes, Parrish and Joyner, and Coach McFarland has assembled those with the most experience and proven performance.

First base will be covered by Bynum, with Joyner on second and Rushing set at third.

Short stop duties will be alternated between McFarland and Haynes.

In the out field, Gore will take left, Parrish, center and Wilder, right field.

With no seniors on the team this year, juniors Brady McFarland and Dylan Bynum, as well as sophomore Charles Michael Mulcahy, will be called upon to take on a leadership role for the Red Devils.

“Those three have the most experience,” the coach said.

As to challenges to face and overcome, consistent hitting and routine defensive play making seem to fit that bill at the present time. Coach McFarland said he is still trying to figure out and fine tune the team’s strengths.

“We are just going to keep working, and keep getting better every day,” he said.
