Discovery Park of America appoints three new board members

(Union City, Tenn., April 15, 2024) — Discovery Park of America is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to its board of directors: Woody Burton, Paige Burcham Dennis and Carol Kirkland.

Burton, director of schools in Lake County, Tennessee, has a diverse background in education and military service. With nearly 20 years in public education, Burton holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Bethel University and advanced degrees from Trevecca Nazarene University. His military experience and educational background provide valuable perspectives to the board.

Burcham Dennis, the owner of Joann’s in South Fulton, Tennessee, brings extensive experience in community service and political involvement. She has served two terms representing the 24th District on the State Executive Committee of the Tennessee Democratic Party and has been a representative to the United States Electoral College. Burcham Dennis currently serves on the Obion County Election Commission and the State of Tennessee’s Registry of Election Finance. She was also appointed by Governor Bill Lee to the United States Election Standards Board.

Kirkland, a philanthropist from Jackson, Tennessee, brings a wealth of community involvement and leadership experience. With degrees in Early Childhood Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin, Kirkland has served as a schoolteacher, University of Tennessee Director of Alumni Programs and president of the Jackson Symphony Association. She currently serves as the grant chairperson for the UT Alliance of Women Philanthropists.

Scott Williams, President and CEO of Discovery Park, expressed excitement about the new additions, stating, "We are thrilled to have this talented trio join our board. Their passion for our mission will greatly contribute to our efforts in serving the region."

The board of directors also includes Al Creswell (Chair), Johnny Bacon, Emily Billingsley, Steve Carr, Keith Carver, Mike Cox, Grace Gary, Bettie Graham, Terry Hailey, Ann Joiner, Tim Shanks, Sam Sinclair, Betty Ann Tanner, Will Wade, Jerry Ward, and Scott Williams.

As part of a tradition started by Discovery Park founder Robert Kirkland, the new board members' cartoon-style portraits will be displayed alongside other board members in Art Hall.
