PUBLIC INVITED FOR PRESENTATION OF FUNDS TO CITY OF FULTON FOR ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE, FROM NATURAL GAS DISTRIBUTION GRANT PROGRAM

Washington, D.C. – The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will hold an in-person press briefing in the Pontotoc Park community building, downtown Fulton, 100 West State Line, Tues., April 23 at 1 p.m. to announce historic investments in Kentucky’s energy infrastructure,   with one of the recipients of that investment, to be the City of Fulton.

The Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) grant program is aimed at mitigating safety risk and methane emissions from the highest-risk, legacy natural gas distribution pipes. The grant program, established by President Biden’s historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is providing over $392 million in total awards this year as part of its goal of issuing nearly $1 billion over five years for the modernization of municipality- and community-owned (not including for-profit entities) high-risk natural gas distribution

pipes—as well as equipment to detect and mitigate leaks.

In addition to the City of Fulton, other recipients to be on hand April 23, for presentation of funds are the City of Murray, and the Leitchfield Utilities Commission.  

These grants aim to improve high risk, legacy pipes, creating hundreds of good-paying pipeline jobs and modernizing infrastructure that has been around for decades and in some cases even nearly two centuries old.    

The public is invited to attend the presentation, which will include speakers, PHMSA Deputy Administrator Tristan Brown; State Director Robbin Taylor for U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell; Leitchfield Utilities Commission Chairman
