Dianne Clement Powell (1946-2024)
A life of love, service, and generosity
Dianne Clement Powell, 78, of Magnolia Springs, Ala., originally from South Fulton, Tenn., passed
away peacefully on August 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 26, 1946 to J.J. and Peggy Clement.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Dianne had a passion for children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandaughter. She was their biggest fan: at basketball and football games, swim meets, gymnastics, dance and cheer, soccer matches – Nana was always there.
She was at every event with her camera.
Throughout her life, she took tens of thousands of photographs of the children in her life, from neighbors to friends of her children and grandchildren. She even had the heart to photograph her sons’ and grandchildren’s teammates and opponents.
Every picture she photographed was a display of her amazing talent that she selflessly gave as gifts to others. Dianne also cared deeply about the less fortunate. For decades, she collected suitcases to give newly fostered
children; she collected and donated hundreds of children’s coats; she created and sewed handmade dolls and sewed outfits for underprivileged children, often anonymously.
She worked as a writer and editor for numerous magazines and the Mobile Register; and served as executive director of the Tennessee Head Injury Association.
Dianne and David met at eight years old, went to the eighth grade dance together, were high school sweethearts and high school homecoming queen and king. Anyone who knew her or even caught a glimpse of them together easily saw what an incredible love they shared. Their nearly 60 years of marriage has served as the epitome of living out your wedding vows.
She loved her alma mater University of Tennessee Volunteers, and being outdoors creating spectacularly beautiful gardens.
Dianne is survived by her husband, David Powell of Magnolia Springs, two sons, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, two sisters, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, brother-in-law, nephew, and parents.
She would appreciate donations to Prodisee Pantry, Daphne, Ala. in her honor.
Services for Dianne will be disclosed separately.
