George Leland Brock, of Fulton, Ky., passed away at Baptist Hospital in Union City, Tenn., on Sat., Feb. 8, 2025. He was the third of eight children and was born to Dewey and Cecil Brock on Dec. 23, 1926.
He graduated from Bell County High School and was soon drafted to serve in World War II as an amphibian truck driver on Okinawa. After the war, he attended Lincoln Memorial University, and upon graduation became a High School Science and English teacher and Elementary Principal. From age 24 to 65 he was employed in the insurance business as an adjuster for General Adjustment Bureau and an agent/owner of Fulton Insurance Agency.
He was a man of great faith who loved God and his church family; he served the church as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years. He also served in many positions and on many committees during his 60 years as a member of the First Baptist Church in Fulton.
The community of Fulton/South Fulton was dear to him, and his desire to contribute to its well-being was seen in the active roles he played in the Lions Club, the American Legion, and on the Fulton Electric Board.
He led his family well, as a loving husband to Alma for 70 years and a wonderful father to Gigi (Michael) Milner, of Fulton, Ky., and Kim (Sam) Bradberry, of Union City, Tenn. He was very involved in the lives of his four grandchildren, Brock (Jessica) Dean, of Union City, Tenn., Sarah Michael (Chris) Henry, of Denver, Colo., Susannah (Jay) Day, of Caseyville, Ill., and Sloane (Matt) Davis, of Union City, Tenn. With each generation added to his family, his love and gratitude for God’s goodness grew. He cherished his 12 great-grandchildren: McKinley, Molly Brock and Houston Dean, Parker, Miles, Elliott and Elizabeth Henry, Marigeorge, Worth, Shepherd and Julianne Davis, and Olivia Day. He considered time with his family as one of his greatest blessings.
Not only was he cherished by his family, but he was also loved and respected by others as well. His integrity, kindness, and selflessness were an inspiration to many. A lover of people, his welcoming personality was encouraging and impactful.
Gardening was one of his greatest pleasures, and even in his 97th year he could be found leaving vegetables on the doorsteps of friends and neighbors. Golf, baking, the study of World War II, and following the Kentucky Wildcats were other joys in his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; six brothers; and one sister. He has one living sibling, Jack Brock, of Morgantown, Ind.
His was a life well lived, and he was a blessing to all who knew him.
