REORGANIZATION, CLOSURES APPROVED BY SCHOOL BOARD

Meeting at 7 a.m. this morning at the Obion County Board of Education office in Union City, with all school board members present, Chris Akin made the motion, seconded by Keisha Hooper, effective June 30, 2025, Black Oak Elementary School is to be closed and those students be rezoned to Hillcrest or Lake Road Elementary; Ridgemont Elementary will close at the end of the 2025-2026 school year and be reopened as Obion County Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year serving Obion County students in grades six through eight. Pre K- fifth grade Ridgemont students will be rezoned to either Hillcrest or Lake Road. If necessary for budget purposes, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year schools may be considered for reorganization, rezoning or closure as deemed necessary by the Board of Education. Board members Fritz Fussell, Keisha Hooper, Tim Britt, Barry Adams, Jared Poore and Chris Akin voted yes, in favor of the motion and Shannon Graham voted no.
