AREA OBITUARIES – Max Leroy Harris

Max Leroy Harris, 87, of Memphis, Tenn., died peacefully on Thurs., June 19, 2025.
Born in South Fulton, Tenn., on Sept. 13, 1937, Max was the son of the late Robert Harris and Doye Bowen Harris. He was a graduate of South Fulton High School, where he met his wife of 68 years, Nina Elliott Harris.
Max is survived by his wife, Nina; their two daughters, Lisa Harris Haney and her husband Philip Haney, and Lynn Harris Hill and her husband Garner Hill; five grandchildren, Jared Haney and his wife Ryan Haney, Kristen Haney Dawson, and her husband Jon Dawson, Jordan Hill Bouldin, and her husband Chance Bouldin, Tyler Hill, and Jackson Hill. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Reese Haney, Carter Haney, George Dawson, Campbell Bouldin, and (soon to come) Garner Bouldin.
Max and Nina moved to Memphis in 1957. After several moves, they returned to Memphis, where they raised their daughters. Max worked at the Commercial Appeal as the Executive Advertising Sales Manager, retiring on Sept. 30, 1999, after 32 years.
Max lived a simple and quiet life. He loved his Kentucky Wildcat Basketball and rarely missed watching a game. He preferred to build, fix, and do things himself. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling. Max was a member of the Raleigh Church of Christ and later a member of the Germantown Church of Christ.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thurs., June 26, 2025, at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, Ky. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
In Lieu of Flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
