City Of Fulton: Road and Utility Update for Jan. 26

January 26, 2026

The City of Fulton Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently working to manage the impact of the recent winter storm. We ask for your continued patience as our teams navigate equipment failures and utility challenges.

Road Conditions & Snow Removal
Our crews are actively working to clear or improve travel on the 22 miles of city streets. Please be aware of the following updates:

  • Equipment Status: Both of the city’s truck-mounted plows are currently out of service due to mechanical failures.

  • Alternative Efforts: To keep progress moving, DPW is utilizing a backhoe, a borrowed skid steer with a snow box pusher, and the assistance of a private contractor.

  • Salt Spreading: Salting operations will begin shortly. While today’s sunshine will help raise surface temperatures, the extreme cold means salt will take longer to react and will require multiple applications.

  • State Roads: State road crews have reported they will begin plowing and spreading salt starting at approximately 10:00 AM.

Water, Sewer, and Gas Utilities
In addition to road clearing, DPW must prioritize the integrity of our utility systems.

  • Broken Pipes: Crews have already responded to multiple calls for broken pipes this morning.

  • Delays: Locating meters and accessing shut-off valves is taking longer than usual due to heavy snow and ice cover.

How You Can Help

  1. Stay Off the Roads: If you do not have to be out, please stay home. This keeps you safe and allows our limited equipment to work more efficiently.

  2. Give Crews Space: If you must drive, please give DPW vehicles and contractors plenty of room to operate.

  3. Be Patient: Our teams are balancing road clearing with emergency utility repairs in sub-zero wind chills.

Safety Reminder: With temperatures remaining low, please check on neighbors and ensure your home's pipes are protected.
