AREA OBITUARIES – Cleslie Herbert Evans, Jr.

Cleslie Herbert Evans, Jr., 84, of Elkton, Va., passed away on Mon., Feb. 16, 2026 at his residence.
He was born on June 29, 1941 in Hickman Co., Ky., and was a son of the late Cleslie Herbert Evans, Sr., and Agnes Autra (Floyd) Evans. He served in the USMC for 24 ½ years, working in counterintelligence. He was involved with debriefing the POWs from Vietnam as well as the hostages from Iran. After retiring, he worked in Security Management. “Chuck” loved coaching church as well as rec league basketball for his daughters, grandchildren, and young church members. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his loving family.
On April 30, 1961 he married the former Martha Ann Ward, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Jamie Wooldridge and husband, Alan, of O’Fallon, Ill., Kelly Groves and husband, Ralph, of Grottoes, Va., Kimberly Arbogast and husband, Harold, of Senoia, Ga., Stacey Breen and husband, Casey, of Fredericksburg, Va.; siblings, Loretta Spraggs, Shirley Evans, Floyd Evans, Linda Shelton, Sherry Williamson and husband Joe; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Evans, Larry Evans and Jean, widow of Larry; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Spraggs, and Danny Shelton.
A celebration of life will be held on Sat., March 7, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Elkton, Va., with Pastor Adam Snow officiating. Military rites will be presented by the United States Marine Corps.
The family will receive friends following the service.
