Fulton City Manager submits Notice of Micro-Retirement

May 13, 2026

At the Mon., May 11 Fulton Commission meeting, City Manager Mike Gunn submitted his Notice of Micro-Retirement (Resignation).
The letter read as follows:
Dear Members of the City Commission,
This letter serves as my formal Notice of Resignation from the City of Fulton. My last day would be July 1, 2026. Serving this community over the last 22 years has been a professional honor and I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to work alongside all of you. As I reflect on our time together, I am proud of everything “we” have accomplished. Looking back at the problems we have fixed and the goals we have achieved, it is evident that our teamwork has made a lasting positive impact on the community. I am proud to have shared in our success as well as our failure. We have built a team that is committed to the progress and well-being of our city. I believe they have the skills and knowledge with the right leadership to carry on a successful mission of keeping the city “on track” and in a positive direction.
I wish the very best for the City of Fulton, employees, and citizens. I encourage you to keep telling our story and keep the bananas as a central part of that narrative. That banana theme is a unique and powerful marketing tool that tells of our community’s heritage and spirit. Once a person hears that story it occupies a little “piece of real estate” in their brain and the banana become synonymous with Fulton. I have enjoyed telling this story so many times over the years and made so many connections doing it.
As I move into this next chapter of my life I see a micro retirement, with lots of fishing, concentrating on improving my health and spending time with family and friends. While starting this slower pace of life, the city staff, leaders and the people of the community will forever be on my mind.
Thank you again for your support and for the privilege of serving Fulton.
Best Wishes,
Mike Gunn
