Fulton Code Enforcement Officer Arrested

June 19, 2018

The Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Fulton has been arrested and charged with tampering with a witness and menacing.

According to a police report issued by Fulton Police Department late Monday afternoon, Bobby Keith Curlin, 59, who up until June 14 served as Code Enforcement Officer for the City of Fulton, was arrested on the charges.

On June 14, Curlin was suspended from his employment, according to the Warrant of Arrest/Complaint Warrant, which was signed electronically by Judge Hunter Whitesell on June 15.

The complaint warrant goes on to state Curlin, "the defendant" is a suspect in the suspicious fire that occurred at 805 Walnut St. in Fulton last week, and he was informed of the pending criminal investigation at the time of his suspension.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing with the State Fire Marshal's office having visited the scene.

Curlin's arrest, however, was associated with his contact with a witness in the investigation, when he allegedly questioned her about what color the vehicle was that was seen at the scene of the fire. The warrant states "during the questioning, he practiced fraud and deceit by suggesting other vehicle colors to her with the intent to affect or alter her testimony."

The warrant states the witness "felt threatened by the defendent's demeanor while he was questioning her."
