Bro. Gayle Barnes, a resident of Water Valley, died Sept. 21, at the Tristar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was 82.

He was born on Aug. 13, 1938 in Water Valley, to the late Burnie Woodrow and Osella Boyd Barnes.

He was a former Pastor of the Old Wingo Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 30 years, then began Morning Star Ministries, where he was currently preaching until his death. He loved the Lord and was an avid horse lover and a motorcycle rider.

He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Tom) Personius, of Mayfield; three sons; Brian Stephen Barnes, of Fulton, Jesse Randal Barnes, of Water Valley, and Jordan (Kelly) Barnes, of South Fulton; four grandchildren, Chance (Paige) Barnes, of Mayfield, and Hadley, Hudson and Hayden Barnes, all of South Fulton; three brothers, Gerald (Clarice) Barnes, Mike (Patricia) Barnes, and Roger (Debbie) Barnes, all of Water Valley; and three sisters, Judy Brown, of Wingo, Ouida (Mark) Fields, of Convoy, Ohio, and Carol Pounds, of South Fulton.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Green Barnes; a sister, Rita Jean Barnes; and a brother-in-law, Robert Brown.

Private family services will be held.
