April is designated as Child Abuse Awareness Month, as well as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

This Thursday, April 22, Lotus Children’s Advocacy and Sexual Violence Resource Center, Kentucky’s Regional Children’s Advocacy and Sexual Violence Center for the Purchase Area, located in Paducah, will stage an event to bring awareness to their services provided for survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and supporting family members.

“Chalk The Walk” will take place from 4-6 p.m., in Fulton, with Lotus representatives on hand to distribute information and create works of art and awareness on the downtown sidewalks at front entrances of Two Doors Down, The Keg, Bradley Chiropractic, Fancy Fannie’s Bakery and Evans Drug.

Spectators are invited to view the chalk art, which will feature inspirational messages of encouragement for abuse victims and learn more about resources and services provided by Lotus, through their Children’s Advocacy Center, Family Support Center and Sexual Violence Resource Center, located at 1605 North Friendship Drive in Paducah.

According to Caroline Neal, with Lotus, information will be distributed regarding online safety measures for children, and items will be given away to those in attendance.

The 24 hour line for Lotus is 1-800-928-7273.

Lotus is supported by grant funding through the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, by the U.S. Department of Justice.
