The Housing Authority of Hickman was recently presented the prestigious award for Small PHA of the Year by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Public Housing Kentucky State Office.
Executive Director, Lynn Busby accepted the award on behalf of the Housing Authority of Hickman during the Kentucky Housing Association’s Annual Conference in Louisville on Sept. 27.
The Small PHA (Public Housing Authority) category comprises PHAs with 250 or less units which includes 81 PHAs across Kentucky, and 120 PHAs total in Kentucky.
During the presentation, HUD cited the Housing Authority of Hickman’s recent overall REAC score of 95 and physical inspection score of 95, which qualifies as a High Performer (HUD’s highest rating).
HUD also noted the Hickman Housing Authority exhibited involvement in the community, supporting youth programs, food programs, and willingness to help out other housing authorities in times of need such as the recent devastating tornado at the Mayfield Housing Authority.
This award has been presented to deserving housing authorities since 1976.
Busby said the Housing Authority of Hickman is pleased to be honored for the first time in their 60+ year existence serving the residents of Hickman.
Busby said that he and the staff would like to thank HUD for recognizing their achievements, especially during the pandemic and devastating times in our community.
“This award would not be possible without the hardworking and deserving employees plus the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority of Hickman,” Busby said.
