by Benita Fuzzell

Christmas in the Parks will be staged this year Dec. 3 in Fulton’s Pontotoc Park and South Fulton’s Unity Park.

A new feature added to this year’s Fulton Tourism Commission sponsored Christmas Season kick-off is the Christmas Parade, which will begin on Broadway in South Fulton at 5 p.m., using the same route at the Banana Festival Parade. There is no entry fee to participate in the parade, however registration forms are required and may be obtained at Fulton City Hall’s Tourism office of South Fulton City Hall. Entry forms may also be obtained by contacting Fulton Tourism Commission at 270-472-9000 or emailing fultontourism@live.com.

Fulton Parks Board member Meribeth Gallimore is chairing this year’s parade, with the only requirement for entrants, that Christmas lights must be included.

Throughout the day, a Christmas Craft Bazaar will be held at Fulton’s Willingham Center, open for shoppers, with proceeds from booth set up going toward the Kiwanis Club of the Twin Cities, Ken-Tenn for community projects.

To secure a booth set up, contact Pat Dunker, 731-446-8856..

The annual lighting of the community Christmas Tree at the Pontotoc Park fountain will be held at the end of the parade, and the Twin Cities Men’s Organization will stage a fundraiser chili supper in the Pontotoc Community Center beginning at 6 p.m.

Following the tree lighting, a fireworks show will commence, and a community choir, coordinated by Pastor Jessie Webb will sing Christmas selections.

South Fulton’s Parks and Recreation Board will serve free cookies and hot chocolate and the Twin Cities Chamber of Commerce will serve s’mores. Fulton’s Parks Board will provide free children’s Christmas crafting.

Santa will be on hand to visit with children in the Pontotoc Park gazebo, if weather permits, or visits will be moved inside the Pontotoc building.
