SFES, SFM/HS students witness Devils’, Lady Devils' mid-day win Feb. 6

In a rare daytime contest, South Fulton’s Lady Red Devils triumphed over visiting Carroll Academy from Huntingdon, Tenn., 51-33.

The Lady Devils held their visitors scoreless in the first quarter, 22-0, but Carroll Academy came back in the second quarter, putting up 14 points on the scoreboard to South Fulton’s 12.

At the halftime mark, the Lady Devils had a 34-14 lead.

The second half, Carroll Academy scored 19 points to South Fulton’s 17, but it was not enough to overcome the first half Lady Devil advantage, with the hosts recording the win, 51-33.

Jennifer Wallace lead the Lady Devils with 19 points, six 2-point goals, plus a three-point basket and succeeding on four of six free throw attempts.

Reagan Johnson had 10 points for the Lady Devils, hitting five 2’s, with Jadyn Rushin and Katie Barclay having 9 points each in the game, Rushin’s from three 2’s and a three, and Barclay with three 3-point baskets. Caroline Barclay had 4 points in the win.

For Carroll Academy, Jayviona Hutch had 27 points and Ari’stan Irwin, 6.

Students and staff from South Fulton Elementary, Middle and High Schools filled the SFHS gym Feb. 6 for a mid-day basketball matchup between the host Red Devils and Carroll Academy.

South Fulton carried the lead throughout the contest, ultimately taking the win, 44-14.

Brady McFarland recorded a team-high 15 points in the game, hitting five shots from the field, two of which connected from three-point range. McFarland was good on three of four trips to the line for South Fulton.

Team mate Connor Allen had 8 points, coming from a perfect 4 for 4 at the line and added in two 2-point buckets.

Charles M. Mulcahy hit three 2-point goals and a free throw for his 7 points, with Heath Harris and Dane Cirkles banking 3 points each, Harris by was of a three-point goal, and Cirkles hitting a 2-point basket and a free throw.

Jackson Barnes, Sam Angelos, Conner O’Neal and Loagan Cromika had 2 points each.

The Red Devils held Carroll Academy to only 2 points by the end of the first half of play, then allowing only a point in the third quarter. Carroll Academy scored 11 points in the final stanza.

Carroll Academy’s Malachi Mack had 6 points for the visitors, Rashawn While, 5, Lute McCaslin, 2 and Deven Crowe, 1 point.

South Fulton led 23-2 at the half, 31-3 in the third quarter and 44-14 for the final.
